Kingston High School’s 1970’s reunion was held on the 16th November 2013 at The Goodfellowship Inn, Cottingham Road, Hull. The organizing committee (Jane Neal, Sally Delanoy and I) decided that we would use the same venue as the 2012 60’s reunion. Everyone was presented with a souvenir ticket and programme on arrival. Andrew Peach (Secretary, OKA) gave the official welcome.
Once the evening had begun, the reunion really looked after itself (in fact ‘non-stop laughter and chatter’ was had by all). Jane had put together an excellent display of 1970’s Kingston memorabilia and photographs that that was much appreciated and mulled over.
It was very pleasing to welcome former members of staff, namely: Messers Slater, Oldfield, Cleverley, Stead, Naylor, Delanoy and Brock who all seemed in fine fettle. I know that I enjoyed listening to some of their reminiscences of Kingston and the members of staff who inspired us all, such as the indomitable Miss Warburton and the scholarly Mr B. Hicks. The party ended at approximately 11.30 p.m. Rumour has it that a Kingstonian romance or two began that evening – but my lips are sealed. Fingers crossed eh?
All in all, the three of us thoroughly enjoyed hosting the event and judging by the feedback we received a t the end of the evening, our efforts were appreciated and the reunion judged a success. Hopefully, the reunion has boosted OKA membership.
Our one disappointment was with numbers, especially with regards to those Old Kingstonians living locally! So the lesson is to all of you who missed this reunion: please don’t ignore the big one in 2015! For us it’s job done – now it’s over to you 1980’s!
